I would like to give a thumbs up to The Edgewood Center, located in the historic seaside town of Portsmouth New Hampshire. The Edgewood Center is a family owned facility which specializes in providing skilled nursing and long term care in a warm welcoming environment.
My grandmother is a resident of Edgewood Center. Normally around here people shudder at the thought of putting a loved one in a nursing home. Is it well run, how do the staff treat their residents, is there anything for the residents to do. Let me put your mind at ease. This facility offers some really great care and compassion to their residents. They offer them so much stuff there seems to never be a dull moment. My grandmother has a great roomie, and they are allowed to make their room feel more like home.

Activities for Young and Old Intergenerational activities are a hallmark of The Edgewood Centre. Edgewood’s residents host monthly community events, inviting area schoolchildren in for seasonal activities and family fun. In the fall, the residents and kids roast marshmallows over the campfire and take hayrides around the pond. Each spring, they hunt for Easter eggs on the lawn and plant flowers for Earth Day.
Have Bus, Will Travel Residents journey each week on Edgewood’s wheelchair accessible bus to visit cultural events, local restaurants, and shopping centers. People particularly enjoy the scenic rides along New Hampshire’s spectacular coastline…with essential stops for ice cream along the way.
Edgewood Child Care: On-Site Sunshine and Laughter The Edgewood Child Care Center provides care for children age six weeks to six years. The babies and children visit with the residents throughout the week and join them for exercise groups, craft activities, and parties. It’s one more way Edgewood feels like one big family-and a happy one at that.
During the holidays they cook fantastic meals, and the family is welcome to join their loved ones. They have a lobster fest in Septemeber, and a bar-b-cue in October for residents, staff, and of course family. We are also invited to eat dinner with our grandmother at no extra charge.
